Curious about the entire process of certifying your property but have real questions or concerns that are preventing you from taking action? Our National Wildlife Federation Habitat Steward will visit your property, analyze your landscape, and make recommendations to help you qualify as a certified Wildlife Habitat. We can even provide a plant list suited to our planting zone. With the continued development taking place around us, certifying your property can go a long way in helping wildlife survive. Only $20 for up to an hour site visit.

With 250 ponds across 6,000 acres, St. James has an abundant assortment of beautiful water views for our enjoyment. Every one of them is home to various wildlife, including turtles. The Conservancy will work with you, and the Ponds Committee to provide you the opportunity to purchase an approved turtle basking platform for the pond in your area.

St. James has been certified by the National Wildlife Federation as an official "Community Wildlife Habitat". We are rich in wildlife here with notable sightings almost every day. We can help you capture spectacular stills and video of wildlife visiting your property, day or night with our state-of-the-art solar trail camera which you may rent for a two-week period.  All images collected are yours! The Conservancy can provide speakers for your group or organization (large or small) on topics related to our work; recycling, conservation, wildlife habitat, living shoreline, and other topics. Education is in our mission statement, and we are passionate about sharing our knowledge of coastal conservation with others. The Brunswick County coast is unique and worth protecting. As our region continues to grow, this becomes more critical.

Who doesn't love Bluebirds!?  Add color, motion, and joy to your property throughout the year by installing one of our premium Bluebird Houses, made in North Carolina. Bluebirds can raise up to three broods over the season.  Over 100 nestboxes have been set up in St. James. Upon delivery, we can provide location advice along with a Bluebird Fact Sheet with tips and maintenance support.

We are also providing Brown Headed Nuthatch nests boxes of the same quality.

Bat houses are available in three sizes: Small - which can hold up to 40 bats, Medium - which can hold up to 80 bats, and Extra Large - which can hold up to 300 bats.  Though their favorite food might be moths, a single Big Brown Bat can consume between 3,000 and 7,000 mosquitoes in one night.
