As a committed participant in our community, St. James Conservancy is focused on enhancing the sustainability of the Town of St. James. Our efforts include safeguarding the natural environment, offering valuable educational resources through the dissemination of science-based documents available for download, and organizing community events.

We are prepared to deliver presentations on various topics to your group or organization, and we now provide the services outlined on this page to the St. James community for a nominal donation.

Wildlife Habitat Certification Consulting

Curious about the entire process of certifying your property but have real questions or concerns that are preventing you from taking action? Our National Wildlife Federation Habitat Steward will visit your property, analyze your landscape, and make recommendations to help you qualify as a certified Wildlife Habitat. We can even provide a plant list suited to your specific property. With the continued development taking place around us, certifying your property can go a long way in helping wildlife survive.

Turtle Basking Platform Installation

With 250 ponds across 6,000 acres, St. James has an abundant assortment of beautiful water views for our enjoyment. Every one of them is home to various wildlife, including turtles. The Conservancy will work with you, your HOA, and the Ponds Committee to determine if your pond is suitable for a turtle basking platform.

And, if so, we'll install it! Add some activity and interest to your pond and help turtles find a safe way to warm up in the sun. See below.

Wildlife Trail Camera Setup on your lot

St. James has been certified by the National Wildlife Federation as an official "Community Wildlife Habitat". We are rich in wildlife here with notable sightings almost everyday. We can help you capture spectacular stills and video of wildlife visiting your property, day and night with our state-of-the-art solar trail camera. We suggest using the video capture and collecting only night activity. This will prolong the batter life. We recommend use with the Apple iPhone over Android homes. See camera agreement form below.

Speaker Series Services

The Conservancy can provide speakers for your group or organization (large or small) on topics related to our work; recycling, conservation, wildlife habitat, living shoreline, and other topics. Education is in our mission statement, and we are passionate about sharing our knowledge of coastal conservation with others. The Brunswick County coast is unique and worth protecting. As our region continues to grow, this becomes more critical.

Eastern Bluebird Nesting Boxes

Who doesn't love Bluebirds!? Add color, motion, and joy to your property throughout the year by installing one of our premium Bluebird Houses, made in North Carolina. Bluebirds can raise up to three broods over the season. Over 100 nestboxes have been set up in St. James. Upon delivery, we can provide location advice along with a Bluebird Fact Sheet with tips and maintenance support.

NC Bat Houses

Bat houses are available in three sizes: Small - which can hold up to 40 bats, Medium - which can hold up to 80 bats, and Extra Large - which can hold up to 300 bats. Though their favorite food might be moths, a single Big Brown Bat can consume between 3,000 and 7,000 mosquitoes in one night.
